Yesterday Mayfair Town & Country became alerted to an incident of attempted fraud targeting innocent tenants on Facebook. which has today gained national press coverage on one of the leading industry websites, Property Industry Eye.

The story came to light after Mayfair were contacted by a member of the public who had seen a property advertised for let on the social media site, by someone claiming to be the legal owner. The posing landlord was offering reduced rent and asking for a deposit upfront, before the receipt of keys. The property is currently on the lettings market with Mayfair, who have been in contact with their client who does not know who the individual is, nor had they instructed anyone else to market the property. Mayfair has received information that another agent in Weston-super-Mare also appears to have been targeted, so they are asking members of the public to be vigilant.
