Rising from the ashes: Weston-super-Mare's new £39m Grand Pier is opened three years after it burned to the ground

It took just 90 minutes for the 104-year-old pier at Weston-Super-Mare to be reduced to rubble after an electrical fault sparked a fire, burning the structure to the ground.
But rising like a phoenix from the flames, the new £39million restoration of the Grand Pier was unveiled by the Princess Royal - and hailed as 'the biggest boost to a British seaside resort for nearly a century'.
Boasting everything from traditional seaside rides - such as dodgems and carousels - to state-of-the-art rollercoasters, the new-look pier can hold 6,700 people and is expected to attract 4million visitors a year.
